Rocketfuel Entertainment’s Latest Heartthrob Makes A Bold Move During Pandemic With First Single
KUALA LUMPUR, July 2021 - The name Syazwan Shuhaimi may be new in the Malaysian music industry, but for this handsome crooner, he is not a newbie and has been belting out vocals professionally for years. Now, more ready than ever, and with a deep passion in music has led to the birth of his first single entitled ‘Sang Purnama’, written and composed by Shazee Ishak together with Audi Mok.
“I’m deeply thankful for all hard work that has been put into making this single, it’s finally here. Sang Purnama is my biggest blessing because I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for quite some time.
“It’s like a dream come true when my manager, who’s also my my brother in law, Pak Azad (actor Azad Jasmin) approached Rocketfuel’s big boss, Mr. Feros at an event stating our interest to release a single and it was well-received,” he said.
Syazwan has a natural talent at singing from a very young age. During his studies at the university, he often performed with a band. However, after graduation he put his dream to become a singer on hold. In 2015, he finally released an introductory single but it did not receive much attention.
“My past experience has taught me to be more careful in my singing career. With full encouragement from my family and friends, and some savings that I earned from working as a graphic designer, I push myself to pursue my dream to release this single.”
“Metaphorically speaking, Sang Purnama is dedicated to the people that we love, they’re like the moon that shines bright at night, and lights up the darkness and silence. It’s for anyone that acts as a beacon in our lives,” he added.
Music has been an integral part of his life. “I’m a big fan of powerhouse singers such as Luther Vandross, Celine Dion and Usher. Locally, I really admire Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza, Anuar Zain and Hazami for their powerful ballads that showcase their vocal strength.
“For this single, I wanted to create a pop dance number with a bit of jazz and R&B. I’m most familiar with ballads but decided to challenge myself and stretch out my ability in music. Apart from that, I also took up dance lessons for a year with choreographer Faruq Suhaimi to further challenge myself especially it suits the concept of music that I bring, ”he added.
The Movement Control Order (MCO) period has not dampened Syazwan’s spirit in pursuing his dreams and even acted as a source of encouragement to face any challenge.
"I didn’t expect to release a single during MCO, but I strongly believe in rezeki. Armed with determination, I went against all odds and flipped it into something positive, because we can’t really tell how long this new normal will last, and since everything is done digitally now, there’s just no excuse, ”he commented.
The 35-year-old does not know the meaning of giving up, but for Syazwan his number one supporter is his own brother-in-law, Azad Jasmin, who believes in his talent.
“Of course, my family is my number one supporter, especially my sister, Eira Syazira, but if it wasn't for Pak Azad who pushed me, maybe this single wouldn’t even happen in the first place, he’s definitely my biggest fan and worst critic.
Sang Purnama took about a month to be completed because of Syazwan’s emphasis on perfecting his masterpiece together with the music video (MV) directed by director Ghazi Maslan.
"Ghazi was my number one choice because of his brilliant work in making MVs, I leave it entirely to him because he understands the mood I wanted and the feel for Sang Purnama," he explained.
According to Mr. Jipie, the new Head of Label & Publishing, Rocketfuel Entertainment, “In the beginning, Pak Azad greeted Mr. Feros at an event and told him about his ideas, soon after the products (single and MV) were presented, Mr. Feros was confident that Syazwan is ready for the mainstream market and his talent should be highlighted.
“We’re honored that Syazwan has accepted our invitation to be part of Rocketfuel. The dedication that he’s shown although we're all in the middle of this COVID-19 pandemic should be taken as an example. May Sang Purnama will be a positive start in Syazwan's career.
Syazwan concluded, “I hope that Sang Purnama will be the starting point for my singing career and at the same time boost the Syazwan Shuhaimi’s brand as a singer. And for all Malaysians, I advise everyone to stay safe, to stay at home if possible, get vaccinated and most importantly please take care of your mental health. ”
‘Sang Purnama’ is available for download on iTunes Store and as a caller ringtone from all major telecommunication service providers and could be easily enjoyed through various music-streaming portals such as Apple Music, Spotify, Joox, YouTube Music, KKBox and Deezer, while the official MV is available for viewing on the the Rocketfuel Network YouTube channel.
